You bet there’s science behind this. Just ask Dr. Stephen Post, the author and professor of bioethics at Case Western Reserve University.

I am doing two segments of, “Heart and Soul” on this popular topic which can be reduced to this, reach out and help others and you also help yourselves. You live longer, have fewer incidents of illness, less depression and you feel better about yourself.

Post’s book, “Why Good Things Happen To Good People”, is a best seller around the world.

Got some feelings about this? Let’s hear them. Send me an email on this and I’ll share it with others. Questions, comments or opposing views? Send them to:

Seldom do I receive viewer reaction that’s so great on just one story.

Last Friday night I ran a story during our regualar, Friday 6pm, Heart and Soul segment about Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine and Grotto in Euclid.

I have done many similar stories like this in the past, but this one really touched a cord. Back in the 1850s, Mary the mother of Jesus is said to have appeared to a 14 year old girl, Bernedette. A spring was discovered on this site in Lourdes, France and from it began to flow miraculour water. That’s the story anyway. So many people were impressed with this that Lourdes replicas began to pop up around the world.

The Lourdes Grotto and Shrine in Euclid is said to be an exact replica. Decades ago, a stone that Mary was said to have stood on was sent to the Cleveland shrine. Today, city water passes over this stone and many take it and drink it. Here in Cleveland many believe this water to have miraculous powers.

The grotto is huge, on a bluff overlooking the city of Cleveland and it’s one of the most tranquil places to visit in the city. People from all faiths come for meditation and prayer. The gates are open to anyone, there is no charge and there are no requirements.

The shrine is located on Chardon Road, just south of Euclid Ave., in Euclid.

Let me know of your stories regarding this grotto and shine.
